Time To Fill The Freezer...

While everyone is outside on this beautiful, 78 degree, hot, sunny day planting potatoes. I get to sit inside and post a quick post for you all. I can't figure out which I would rather be doing, cause I enjoy them both.  I do like to be outside though when it is such a pretty day!! :) They have lots to plant, so I am sure that there will still be some left for me to plant! :)

In the mean time, here is a quick post of our butchering last week. Someone gave us some roosters. We kept some of them cause our last roosters found their way to the freezer. They had a terrible time at getting along! Anyway, Mom put the boys to work and with some help from Jenny they got them all butchered.

This is the first time that they did this pretty much all by themselves and it was a good experience for them!
Dad recently got another Jersey cause Milly was going down in milk and we didn't want to have to get her bred back.
It was a very sad thing to think to have to put Millie in the freezer, but sometimes its just what you got to do. She was a very good cow and gave us lots of the best milk for over around 2 years. But it was time to say good bye.... :((

The guys put her down and did all the skinning.

 "Great job, Jesse!!"

They hung her up in the shed and we cut the meat off the bone the very next day.
Got our aprons on and ready to work!
Jubilee all ready to help!! :)

We ground most of the meat into hamburger.

Look at this handsome young man ;)

With 9 roosters and close to 400 pounds of meat in the freezer... looks like we are set for a while! :)
