If I were going to try and explain to you the word "monsoon", instead of me giving you one little example, I would give you all the different details you would need to create your own mental picture. Now I do know, that a lot of you know what the word "monsoon" means. And since most of you have been there to experience it, there is no need for me to give you a whole essay on the topic. The only thing that I am going to bring up about it is that I love monsoon time of year!! :) Our monsoons have just started and I love sitting out side watching the lightning streak across the sky lighting the whole night up as though it was day and then wait for the thunder to crack in reply. Then to smell the fresh smell of rain and feel the cool breeze before a down pour.
Uh oh.. here I am starting to explain it to you all when I just said I wouldn't. :/ Anyway, I'll stop there and tell you a little story of what happened a couple nights ago... We were all sitting on the porch watching the lightning when a bolt hit the mountain, not more then a few miles away. Where it hit a ball of fire went up and we were glad it wasn't any closer. A little later a fire started on the mountain, burning the best it could in the down pour. It must have finished burning whatever it had come to hit and the flames finally went out. We were glad that it was raining and we didn't have another one of our beautiful mountains on fire!!
The rain is making the garden hit it's growth spurt, along with the fields of grass and the weeds. We are now starting to pick raspberries and finishing up on the strawberries. We have fresh onions braided together and hanging in the shop ready to be used whenever we need them. Dad and the boys planted soy beans and green beans in our big garden in the field. We still have a few green beans in the green house and plenty of chard, lettuce and spinach. Fresh salads are always on the menu! :) We are starting to get fresh tomatoes out of the garden and we just planted sweet potatoes. I probably didn't mention all the things we are getting out of our gardens, but yes, the monsoons are a great time to plant and harvest!
I decided to add a few pictures together instead of making a huge long post with them all. So enjoy! :)

ReplyDeleteSister Melissa, the hummingbird was trapped in the greenhouse, so in it's panic I was able to catch him. He was so little and yet so feisty that you really had to hang onto him!! :) btw, I love long comments.! :)
Loved the picture collages! I was going to ask about the hummingbird, so was glad that when I got to the comments it was asked and answered already. :-)
ReplyDeleteI needed the pictures of the little greenhouse and the chickens to get it all in perspective, truly a picture is worth a thousand words, and I didn't have it put together quite right in my mind!
